Mr. Walter Richard Smith, 101 of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at his home, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Rudder Funeral home with Bro. Brian Guess and Rev. Jimmy Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Sequatchie Valley memorial Gardens.

He was born in Richard City to the late Arthur and Sallie Smith and retired from the Penn-Dixie Cement Co., where he was a shift foreman. Walter was a retired United States Army veteran of WWII and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Millie Smith; children, Ron (Debbie) Smith, Judy (Jimmy) Campbell, Wendell (Cathy) Smith, Terry (Sammy) Burrows; sister, Reita Campbell; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur Smith, Mary Essary, Charles Smith, Roy Rorex, Ralph Rorex, Rachel Blevins, James Rorex, Winifred Hoback.
