William Bohannon, Jr.

Mr. William “Bill” H. Bohannon, Jr., 98 of Scottsboro, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Rudder Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Hogland officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery.

He was born on Tuesday, April 1, 1924 in Chicken Foot in Jackson County where he was raised, to Martha and William Bohannon, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII, serving from 1945 to 1946, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan and Japan Victory Ribbon. He married Erlene Lusk in 1948 in Rising Fawn, Georgia and worked in the steel mills of Harvey, Illinois for several years, returning home to Scottsboro in 1968 where he worked at Revere Copper and Brass until his retirement in 1982. He continued cattle farming until the age of 92. His family attributes his longevity to his hard work and long daily walks to feed and tend his livestock. He enjoyed farming, gardening, reminiscing about the past and watching Braves baseball. He is known for his sharp memory, thoughtfulness, love for his family and being an extremely hard worker. He attended Faith Covenant Church of God.

He is survived by his son, Hank (Connie) Bohannon; daughter, Sonia (Dennis) Brock; grandchildren, Carissa Brock, Valerie (Patrick) Widgeon, Will Bohannon, Hayley (Joe) Holbrook; great-grandchildren, Kody Gross, Bentley Holbrook, Taylor Holbrook, A.J. Widgeon, Greyson Widgeon; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Bohannon; wife, Erlene Bohannon; sisters, Bertha Edmonds, Sue Perkins, Louise Sampson, Hazel Sharp, Rita Smith; brothers, Howard, Ray and Stanley Bohannon.
