Kathryn Eileen Robinson Malcom, 76 of Birmingham and formerly of Scottsboro, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Cotswolds Clubhouse, 3839 Cotswold Drive North in Birmingham. All family and friends are invited to attend.
Mrs. Malcom was born in Gadsden, a daughter of Naomi and Joseph Robinson. She grew up in Gadsden, was a member of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church and graduated from Gadsden High. She married John Malcom in 1965 and graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1969 with a BS in Education. She became a certified social worker with the Alabama Department of Pensions and Security, now HR. Changing careers, she received the Doctor of Jurisprudence from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1983. In law school, she was a delegate to the James L. Hughes International Law Society and was a member of the Trial Advocacy Board. Leaving private practice in 1988, she was appointed Assistant Attorney General by Governor Guy Hunt, working in the Moblie, Ala. office. She later served four years as an Assistant District Attorney in Madison County and moved to Scottsboro in 1992, practicing there until her 2010 retirement. While in Scottsboro, she was the municipal prosecutor for the city of Scottsboro, was the Stevenson attorney, prosecuted for the city of Bridgeport and represented other municipalities, businesses and individuals. She was President of the Jackson County Bar Association in 2001-2002, was involved in various community and civic activities, including the Jackson County Bama Club and attended the Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she occasionally sang in the choir.
She was intellectually curious, funny, sarcastic, widely-read, knew the answer to every trivia question ever asked, a true friend, a loyal supporter of the people and causes she loved, creative and artistic and devoted to her animals – especially Larkin, a stray pup she rescued from Old Larkinsville Road in Scottsboro years ago.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Malcom; son-in-law, Gerald Tysver, Jr. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellie; sister, Sarah Robinson.
