Hilda Gay Davis, 77 of Huntsville, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Section Funeral Home with burial following the service.
Hilda was born in Hodge, Ala. to Hoyt and Orel Davis. She spent the bulk of her career at NASA as a contracting officer. During her extensive career, she managed several large complex science and space flight procurements, including the Chandra X-ray Observatory telescope and the X-33 Program, one of the largest reusable launch vehicle programs at NASA.
She was smart, funny and loved life. She loved to travel, play golf and spend time with friends and family. She had a stroke shortly after retirement that left her partially paralyzed and unable to walk, but Hilda was determined she would get better and kept going. With the help and encouragement of her life partner, Jesse Lee, Hilda maintained her zeal for life, even after two rounds of lung cancer. She was a strong woman and a fighter. Her body may have failed her in the end, but it could never take away the friend, sister and companion that she was to those she loved. It is with great sorrow that Hilda should leave this world, because she will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her companion, Jesse; Jesse’s three sons, Christopher (Mariela) Lee, Kevin (Natascha) Lee, John (Sylvana) Lee; their children, Alejandro, Mateo, Valentina Lee, Mia and Ben, Jasper; brother, Terry Davis; sister, Joyce Repsher. She was preceded in death by her father, Hoyt Davis; mother, Orel Davis.
