James “J.L.” Luchion Akins, 64, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 21, 2022. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
When a person consistently lives a life of value, their character can be stated simply. J.L. adored his wife, loved his family, worked hard and enjoyed Alabama football. He was quick to help, slow to anger and easy to fill with pride. Being a good husband, dad, stepdad, Pawpaw, friend and autoparts salesman were his greatest accomplishments.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 34 years, Robin Akins; children, Selina (DeRon) Pittman, Celeste Patteson, Jeremiah Akins; grandchildren, Jillian Pittman, Emmitt Patteson, Avett Patteson; siblings, Jimmy (Kim), Dennis, Arthur (Sandy), Timmy (Barbara), Tina; nieces and nephews, David, Shelly, Jennifer, Josh, Cody, J.D., to whom he provided the love of a father; many great-nieces and nephews; friends; loved ones who brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Evelyn Akins; in-laws, Mearl and Agnes Jordan; he will also be lovingly greeted by sweet siblings who passed early in life.
