Albert Willoughby Pipes, 98 of Scottsboro and formerly of Pawtuckett, Rhode Island, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Polly Robb officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Al was a proud WWII veteran, serving in the United States Navy on the USS LCI 481 in the Marshall Islands. He and his family moved to Scottsboro in 1964 to open Bellefonte Lace Manufacturing. He was later employed by Revere and Norandal. Living life to the fullest, Al enjoyed photography and was an award winning photographer. He was a certified scuba diver and also enjoyed trail riding and attending horse shows with his youngest daughter. In his later years, he enjoyed participating in activities at the Senior Center.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane (Robert) Steffy, Cindy (James) Hunt) Green, Beth (John) Massey; daughter-in-law, Regina Pipes; special nephew, Ronald (Anne) Mitchell; grandchildren, Dr. Georgina (Patrick Nelson, Tracy Green, Dr. Christopher (Jill) Green, Tim Pipes, Blake (Michal) Massey, Dr. Michelle (Timothy) Maher; great-grandchildren, Arabella Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson, Harley Pipes, James Green, Mary Green, Hunter Massey; several nieces and nephews; longtime caregiver and friend, Mildred Shelton, who cared for him for the past several years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Pipes; son, George Pipes; father, Harry Pipes; mother, Clara Taylor; sister, Barbara Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Sara Green.

Box 3388, Huntsville, Ala. 35810 or to the Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum, P.O. Box 17220, Portland, Oregon, 97217. The mission of this organization is to preserve the history of the Amphibious Forces in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
