Elizabeth Morris

Elizabeth Jean Caperton Morris, 87, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 16, 2022. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at in the chapel at Rudder Funeral Home with interment following in Stevenson City Cemetery.

Born on Thursday, May 30, 1935 in Stevenson to James and Madge Caperton, she graduated from Stevenson High and received a degree in Education from Auburn University. She began teaching 6th graders and 8th grade science in Fort Benning, Georgia. While there, she met United States Army Lieutenant Richard “Heavy” Morris, who fell in love with Jean’s feisty spirit when she charged him five cents for a sandwich when he stopped by her house. They were married in 1964 at Fort Benning, later welcoming their daughter while stationed in San Francisco. Their family adventures brought them across the globe, and they made many friends along the way, including the Wild Goose Crew.

Jean was well known for her wit, and she loved to tell a good joke to her friends and family. Even as her health declined, her sense of humor did not. Her quips would bring bouts of laughter even in her last days. She leaves a big hole in the heart of her family and friends who were entertained by these stories, jokes and antics; no matter the circumstance, you would always leave with a new story or joke. She truly brought the life to the party.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews, Ann Morris, Ellen Tipton, Kayte Tipton, Stuart Dyer, Julie Dyer, Cathy Potter, Bill Morris, Hilary Tamburro, John Rudder, Mary Rowe; several great-nieces and a great-nephew; great-great-nieces. She is now at peace, joining her husband; parents; siblings, Jimmy Caperton, Jane Tipton; niece, Betsy Jeffries; many treasured friends. That is one fun party reunited!

Special thanks to Rosalyn Shepherd, Daisy Armstrong, Debra Dorsey, Carol Shepherd, Tyasia Jones, Beverly Wembeley, Bykota Ejaife for taking such good care of Jean and Richard for over 15 years. They loved you.

She was one of a kind and will never be forgotten but forever remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Flowers are welcome.
