David L. Hawkins, 64 of Dutton, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn York officiating and Josh Hawkins and Cody Hawkins giving tributes. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
He was a husband, father and grandfather.
David was born on Sunday, November 17, 1957 in Flat Rock to Marvin and Maurene Hawkins. “Choo-Choo” was a 1976 Pisgah High graduate, where he was a stand out in football and basketball. He had a big personality and loved life, discovering his personal passion in the sock industry where he founded Hawkins Socks in 1989. What began as a way to make a few extra dollars at local flea markets led to a successful business venture he owned and operated for 33 years.
His hobbies included hunting and crappie fishing, but he was especially passionate about coaching youth sports. David coached many baseball, softball, football and basketball teams through Jackson County for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Hawkins; father; brothers, Ricky Hawkins, Gary (Sandra) Hawkins, Malcolm (Margaret) Hawkins; sons, Anthony Hawkins, Josh (Claudia) Hawkins, Cody (Taylor) Hawkins; six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Sandra.
