Tommy David Knotts, born on Friday, December 4, 1959 in Leland, Miss., passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. As a result of receiving Jesus earlier in life, he began his pain-free life in Heaven. No services were planned, but donations may be made to Mountain Lakes Group Home in Dutton.
As a young boy, Tom learned the value of work by pumping gas and working in his parents’ small country store. Typical family activities included church, games, sports, go-carts, swimming and vacations. Tom was a good student and many read his own humorous cartoon, “The Byrdman,” a parody of one of his favorite teachers.
Throughout his life, Tom exhibited a strong work ethic. While working with a large toy retailer, he was rewarded with a promotion to a large store in Connecticut; however, he missed the good ole South and his family and relocated.
Tom continued working in retail management, manufacturing and after earning his degree, became a substitute teacher. In 2009, Tom began working at Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare in Dutton where he initially served as a mental health worker and then as a care coordinator. Unfortunately, throughout much of his life, he experienced numerous health issues, culminating with a health crisis in February of 2021. As a result, he was unable to continue doing what he loved.
Along the way, he was known to many as a hard worker, a quiet and giving person, an avid animal lover, a diehard Ole Miss fan and a dependable friend to family and to all who were blessed to know him.
Mourning his passing but rejoicing with him in his new position are his siblings, Janet Jordan, Dalton (Lynn) Knotts, Jr., Joyce McClure, Maxwell Knotts, Steve (Tammy) Knotts; sister-in-law, Sue Knotts; nieces, Leslie, Wendy, Carla, Patricia; nephews, Jonathon, Kevin, Joshua, Michael, Paul; many friends, coworkers, clients and family; faithful three-legged canine friend and companion, Jack. He was preceded in death by his father, Dalton Knots, Sr.; mother, Ruby Knotts; bonus mother, Shirley Knotts; brother-in-law, Jimmy McClure; sister-in-law, LeeAnn Knotts; brother, Olen Knotts; niece, Sara Hardin.
