Mildred Martin Willmon passed away at her home in Grant on Thursday, May 19, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Oak Grove Holiness Church with family graveside services held at Gunter Mountain Memory Gardens.
Mildred was born in Swearengin on Saturday, January 19, 1946. She lost her father at an early age and helped raise her siblings by working in the fields and picking cotton. She received the Holy Ghost in 1962 and has been a member of Oak Grove Holiness Church for 70 years. She married David Willmon in 1963, and they traveled the world together. She truly enjoyed fishing and was very good at it. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage next month. Mildred was also a 1964 graduate of KDS DAR.
She was a hardworking woman and enjoyed working in her sewing and macrame shop for a few years. Later, she worked alongside her husband at Peoples State Bank as a bookkeeper. She had a passion for gardening and worked hard in her flower beds. She could make the smallest twig grow into a beautiful flower. She was also an amazing cook and baker, teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook. Mildred enjoyed entertaining friends and family over the years. She also held a love for animals throughout her life. Her love for her family was evident in all she accomplished. Spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. She succeeded in being a wonderful wife, amazing mother and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her sons, Chris Willmon, Tim (Beth) Parmer; daughter, Suzanne Willmon; grandchildren, Maegan (Orlando McRae) Willmon, Emily (Cody) Daugette, Trevor (Alex) Willmon, Lindsey (Bo) Patterson, Robert Willmon, Mary Parmer, Luke Parmer; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Pam) Martin; sisters, Evelyn (Charles) Troup, Patricia Franks, Brenda Ferguson; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Willmon; mother, Annie Martin; father, Cress Martin; brother, Sonny Martin.
