Walter Milton Porter of Scottsboro passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 20, 2022 in the Rudder Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Jimmy Walker officiating. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Porter was born on Sunday, March 26, 1950 in Lexington, Ala. He spent his youth in Cypress INN, Tenn. and was a 1968 graduate of Collinwood High. In 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in combat during the Vietnam War. Receiving an honorable discharge in 1972, he also received several medals.
Mr. Porter worked as a journeyman electrician for the IBEW at several nuclear facilities, including Bellefonte. He was later employed by the Chrysler Corporation as a maintenance electrician where he eventually retired.
He is survived by his brother, Marty Porter; children, Chris (Jennifer) Porter, Christy (Chad) Gaddes, Matthew (Zak) Porter, Ben (Maria) Gentle, Aubree (Bradley) Potter; grandchildren, Christian Porter, Donnie Porter, Hannah Porter, Spencer Gaddes, Jacob Gaddes, Devon Griggs, Hunter Potter, Bailey Potter, Luke Potter, Chenoa Gentle, Riley Gentle, William Gentle, Jacob Walls, Logan Walls, Evan Walls, Hannah Walls; future great-grandson, Teddy Porter; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Porter and Clara Pitts; wife, Angela Porter; sister, Janie Sherrill; granddaughter, Erica McGaha.
