On February 14th, Valentine’s Day, there will be a silent auction held on the first floor hallway of the Jackson County Courthouse to raise funds for little RJ Holcomb.
RJ is the son of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Craig Holcomb and Michelle Holcomb, and he has been facing Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) since mere seconds after his birth.
Little RJ is looking at a six to ten-month hospital stay at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, and he has already undergone numerous procedures to strengthen his antibodies and broaden his donor pool for a heart, because he is going to need a new one to survive. Even after the transplant, RJ and his parents, who are already splitting their time with him and his two other siblings, will have to remain within 30 minutes of the hospital for at least three months just to be safe and to give RJ the best chance possible in the event of another emergency.
The funds from this fundraiser will go straight to helping RJ’s family cover the expenses of his hospital stay and his surgery. There are already some big-ticket items up for grabs at the auction, like a Weber grill and a two-night stay in the Smoky Mountains. Bids will be running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you would like to donate to the fund, or you would like to donate some items to be put up for bid, you are encouraged to come by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office or call Kim at 256-574-2610 or email kimrice@jcch.net to arrange for pick-up.
