Mr. Danny Guest Gilbert, 73 of Port St. Joe and formerly of Geraldine, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 due to complications from COVID. Services were held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at First Baptist Church.
Mr. Gilbert grew up in Geraldine where he learned to pick cotton and play football. He was a University of Alabama graduate, where he was also a three-year letterman and team captain for the Crimson Tide. He was inducted into the DeKalb County Hall of Fame in 1999. He received a degree in business and used it to open and operate a successful business in Fort Walton Beach for almost30 years. He loved life, family, friends, football and Sand Mountain. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed and accepted. His presence was grand, his smile was infectious, and his laughter filled the room. No one could tell a story like Danny. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mindy; children, Shanna (Timothy) Ullmann, Brandy Hill, Barkley Glendenning, Palmer Gilbert; grandchildren, John Carter, Jake Carter, Walker Gilbert, Woods Glendenning; nieces, nephews; his beloved pug, Ms. Addie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Harold Gilbert; sisters, Lynn Parrish, Lana Machen.
