Martha Sirmans, 86, passed away at her home in Tiger, Georgia on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Public ceremonies will be announced at a later date.
She was born on Friday, September 20, 1935 in Larkinsville to Benjamin and Ruby Harper, living her early years in Alabama before moving to Marietta in 1953. Martha graduated from Marietta High in 1953 and was an outstanding player on the MHS basketball team. In October of 1953, she married Allen Gann, and they had two children together.
Martha became active in community affairs while working as secretary of the First Baptist Church on Saint Simons Island, raising her sons. She was active in garden clubs and PTA for many years, also serving on the Glynn County Board of Education. She was recognized as the Young Woman of the Year in Glynn County in 1972. She later became an entrepreneur and opened two flower shops. In 1976, she married Robert Sirmans and lived in Brunswick until 2000.
She is survived by her sons, Benjamin Gann, James (Debra) Gann; grandchildren, Benji (Candace) Gann, Scott (Neila) Gann, Jamie Gann; great-grandchild, Willow Gann; many cousins, nieces, nephews and stepchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband, Robert Sirmans; grandson, Bobbie Gann.
