Harold Daniel Newell, 80 of Killen, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Elkins East Chapel with Greg Corble officiating.
Mr. Newell graduated from Athens State College with a BS in criminal justice. He was a member of Shoals Church and a past member of the Masons and Lions Club. He also served six years as mayor of Killen. He loved golf and vintage car restoration. Mr. Newell was an Auburn football fan, having traveled with the team as trooper security during the mid-seventies. After 35 years, he retired from the Alabama State Troopers as a Captain of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation Division.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dimple Newell; children, Lori Yates, Amy (Joey) Shankles, Jamie (Carl) Pritchett, Bridgett (Greg) Corble, Brandie Leoni; grandchildren, Cecil Yates, Caroline Yates, Evan (Hartley) Pritchett, Paige Pritchett, Blake Shankles, Maddie Shankles, Carly Corble, Caden Corble, Cyler Corble, Kimber Leoni; great-grandchildren, Lacey and Saylor Pritchett; sister, Jean DuBose; a host of loving nieces and nephews.
