James David Campbell

Mr. James David Campbell, 80 of Scottsboro passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Smith officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Campbell was born in Chattanooga on Thursday, September 14, 1939 to James and Ruth McNabb Campbell. The family moved to Scottsboro in 1943. Campbell later graduated with the Class of 1957 from Jackson County High School. Afterward, he enlisted in the United States Navy and traveled the world aboard the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier. He later married Sharon Lands in 1964, and he was a Master Mason of Scottsboro Masonic Lodge No. 359 and a Shriner of Cahaba Shrine out of Hunstville. He worked for General Telephone Company (now Verizon) from 1965 until 1988, working his way up to management and transferring to Myrtle Beach. He was offered a position in Scottsboro in 1978 and retired in 1988, at which time he owned and operated a convenience store for five years. He was also a good artist, and he loved to draw and paint. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Lands Campbell; daughter, Kimberly Lee Campbell; sister, Almeda (Randy) Hatfield; brother, Bill Nichols; sisters-in-law, Loretta Dudley, Cecile Miller; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Nichols; father, James Campbell; step-father, Homer Nichols; in-laws, Orville and Lee Lands. The family wishes to thank his nephew, Patrick Miller for his loving care and the wonderful staff of Alacare/Encompass for their help and care.
