Mr. William Don Burgess, 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. David Moorman officiating. Burial followed at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Burgess was a United States Army veteran and served as a law enforcement officer in Memphis. He was also a mason and a member of Eastern Star. A retired United Methodist minister, he ministered for eight years in the Jackson County Jail and five years with Karios Prison Ministry in Limestone County. He also retired after 42 years as an Independent insurance agent.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Burgess; son, Robert (Isabel Galvina de Morais Oliveira) Burgess; stepchildren, Bruce (Nancy) Hoge, Perry (Sonya) Hoge, Gena Quinn; sister, Judy Milam; brothers, Dwight (Betty) Burgess, Jerry Burgess; grandchildren, Amanda (Marshall) Murdock, Riley (Lori) Hoge, Brooke (Richard) Zolnik, Holly Quinn, Amber (Luke) Stevens, Autumn Quinn, Jeremy Quinn, Sarah Hoge, Molly (Cole) Border, Kelsie Burgess, Brandie Burgess; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Elsie Burgess; sons, Chris Burgess, Greg Burgess; brother, Bobby and June Burgess; grandchild, Sherisa Burgess.
