Sheila Marie Heckel Shelton, 72 of Scottsboro passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro.
She was born in New Orleans on Saturday, January 7, 1950 to Jacob and Valerie Heckel and was the second oldest of their 10 children. Before moving to Alabama in 1998, she was a beloved Montessori school teacher and recent retiree after 20+ years as a front-end manager at Walmart. Sheila had a love for all things nature and knowledge and a great empathy for people and animals. She was passionate about helping others and made lasting, positive impacts in people’s lives. She was influential, unconventional, worldly, funny and truly unique. Sheila was an exceptional mother, teacher and an open-minded friend to all. She is loved by so many and will be forever missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Shelton-Houser; granddaughter, Remy Houser; brothers, Mark and Tim; sisters, Debbie, Gerri, Mary, Catherine, Joanne and Terese; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
