A celebration of life ceremony for Shirley Edmonds, 51 of Scottsboro, born on Friday, February 6, 1970, was held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Grant First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Stanfield officiating and Keith Stanfield, Maston Edmonds and McKayla Hodges sharing. Burial followed in Center Point Cemetery.
Shirley was the second born to Ranzy and Mary Evett. She was a 1988 graduate of DAR High, going on to earn a bachelor’s from Athens State and a master’s from Jacksonville State. She began her career in education as a teacher, spending many years teaching history, later finishing her career as a middle school vice principal. Shirley battled with her health for a number of years, which created many obstacles and challenges, but despite her circumstances, she never stopped enjoying life and her time with family. Anyone who knew Shirley, knows she loved each individual member of her family and friends unconditionally, being fully present, showing up to every birthday and family gathering despite her medical challenges. Most importantly, she loved God, and her faith remained constant. It was her purpose to glorify God and love others intentionally.
She had a remaining piece of advice to share: “Always keep God as number one in your life. He is the only one who can bring you the comfort you need each and every time you need it. He will always be there for you.”
