This week at The Heritage Center, installation began on the kitchen cabinets. The second coat of paint was also applied to the exterior. The color match is a seamless transition to the original color of the Brown-Proctor building.
The columns on the front and back entrances of the addition are also under installation.
Work is slowing down at the Heritage Center due to the delay with shipment of interior doors and door hardware. I guess that is to be expected due to businesses closing and slow down of production during the height of the Coronavirus last year and earlier this winter. Hopefully, these items will be in within the next several weeks and it will only take a few short weeks to complete our addition once these items are received and other work can be concluded. Tolar Construction is working hard to coordinate the arrival of the items that are needed.
All of the kitchen equipment, appliances and cabinetry, are on site and are in the processing of being installed and then finishing touches will be completed there. We are so excited to see this progress.
We are moving forward with decisions for window coverings and other items needed for the addition, such as additional chairs and tables to use for events. We are hoping that donations will continue to come in that will allow us to move forward with these items. We estimate that these items alone will be about $20,000.
Final wiring for the security system is almost complete. We are excited about this new additional security not only for the new addition but also for the Brown-Proctor House. Donations have funded this much needed service.
We have been blessed with several additions of display cases to be used in the addition. Several of these were purchased at a greatly reduced cost with donations and at least one very nice display case has been donated. We have lots of items that we can place in these cases and are excited to be able to utilize them in the near future to display our collections.
We are also looking at the enormous challenge of landscaping not only the around the new addition but also refreshing the entire grounds of the Heritage Center. We have a Landscape committee that is working on this plan and look forward to seeing our grounds back in the beautiful condition that we had all come to appreciate and enjoy. We can’t wait to see how we will once again be a visual showplace in our city. Again, this is an area where we will need additional donations to complete.
Again, we want to remind the public that donations, no matter the amount, are greatly appreciated and that your donations are tax-deductible. We also encourage businesses in our community to step forward and support our efforts. Donations of $250 or more will have the donor name on a plate mounted on our Donor Board to be displayed in the new addition. These funds will be used to provide essential items that are outside the General Contractor bid that are the responsibility of the Heritage Center.
For additional information concerning making a donation or the purchase of brick pavers that will be placed at the entrance to the new addition, you may contact the Heritage Center Director Jennifer Petty by phone at 256.259.2122, or by e-mail at heritage@scottsboro.org, or by mail at PO Box 53, Scottsboro, Ala. 35768. We encourage you to continue to follow our progress and other information about the Heritage Center on the Facebook page ScottsboroHeritage, and the website at sjhc.us. Also, continue to read the weekly updates published in The Clarion and the Jackson County Sentinel each week. We appreciate their sharing our progress with the community.
