Betty Sparks Campbell, 90 of Scottsboro passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Services were held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Valley Funeral Home in Scottsboro with a private burial following.
An only child, Betty was born on Friday, May 16, 1930 to Rev. Farrel and Bertie Carver Sparks in Johnson City. In June of 1947, before her senior year of high school, Betty married Mainard Glen Campbell, a United States Navy WWII veteran. She finished high school while carrying her daughter who was born in September, and 11 months later, she gave birth to her first son. Two years later, she gave birth to their second son.
Betty was the backbone of her family , and she was a woman of faith and took her children to church.
She and Glen planned with the good of their children foremost in their minds. It was their goal for them to have the benefits of a college education. Betty believed in education for herself as well. After her children were in elementary school, she attended business school and excelled. Betty always wanted to become a nurse. After the children left home, she trained to become an LPN and worked in home health for many years. She will be remembered as a conscientious and caring soul to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Sandie (Paul) MacKnight, Billy (Annette) Campbell, Thomas (Linda); grandchildren, Beau (Johnaca Kelley) Christison, Paul Ware Campbell MacKnight, Claiborne (fiance Lee Karanicolas) Campbell MacKnight, Eric (Gena) Campbell, Christopher (Mary Wilson) Campbell, Jonathan (Shana) Campbell, Jason (Jenny Lee) Campbell; great-grandchildren, Ellie Campbell, Parker Smith, Hudson Campbell, Landry Campbell; great-great-grandchildren, Campbell Smith, Caldwell Smith; brother-in-law, J.C. (Jeanette) Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 48 years, Mainard Campbell; husbands, Archie Rousseau, Cardell Odom; parents; great-granddaughter, Brantlie Campbell; sisters-in-law, Anna Arnold, Elsie Lovelace, Wilma Lee.
