The Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center is currently raising funds to complete a 3,000+ square foot addition to the back of the Brown-Proctor House, where the center is currently housed. The project has been in the works since 2013, and construction was finally able to begin last year.
The Heritage Center is the repository for records and artifacts that pertain to this entire county. Researchers from all over the United States travel to the center every year and are able to conduct their research free of charge. The staff at the center are knowledgeable, and if they do not have what someone is looking for, they know where to find it.
In addition to being such an extensive hall of records and history, they also host field trips, tours, receptions, meetings, art exhibits and holiday celebrations for the community.
Currently, $100,000 is needed to complete the addition, which will allow for more safety, convenience and opportunities for patrons, education and enrichment.
Any donations received are tax-deductible. The center also provides proof of receipt that can be used when filing taxes. All donors will be displayed on a donor board for the addition. Brick pavers can be purchased and engraved with any message or name. A 4×8 paver is $100, and an 8×8 paver is $200. Monetary donations are also accepted, and donors will be displayed as $15,000/Diamond; $5,000/Platinum; $2,500/Gold; $750/Silver; $250/Bronze. Go to sjhc.us and print out a paver template or a donation template. Make checks payable to Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center Association, and mail to P.O. Box 53, Scottsboro, Ala. 35768 (please do not send cash by mail).
