Mr. Fred Thomas, 90 of Scottsboro passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Agape Baptist Church with Rev. Donna King officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was a teacher, coach and was Principal at Scottsboro High. Fred played basketball at Jackson County High 1945 – 1948 and then played at UNA. After his time playing basketball, he became an Official for junior, high and college games for 37 years. He also officiated in the state high school basketball tournaments three times and was inducted into the Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Fred was a United States Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Frazier Thomas; daughter, Marsha Gogan; son, Phillip (Dianne) Thomas; grandchildren, Kevin Gogan, Brandy Gogan, Brooke Gogan, Alison Berryhill, Brady Michael Thomas; great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Thomas; daughter, Melissa Thomas; parents, Grady and Louella Thomas.
