Thalma Sandridge Snodgrass, 93 passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. A homegoing celebration and celebration of life were held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Greater St. Paul A.M.E. church with Rev. Lasagna Smith officiating.
She was born on Sunday, June 5, 1927. She became a life-long member of the A.M.E. Church and was the widow of the late Reverend King D. Snodgrass. A graduate of George Washington Carver High, she received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from Alabama A&M College. She taught in the Scottsboro city School system for 34 years. Mrs. Snodgrass enjoyed retirement from her teaching career with continuous participation in community activities and traveling both in the United States and in foreign countries.Over the years, Sister Snodgrass used her time with the following: volunteering for Meals on Wheels and at Highlands Medical Center. Being a member of the AARP, Christmas Charities Organization, RSVP, Jackson County Voters League, Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, AEA, NEA. A devout supporter and worker in the Alabama Democratic Conference, Inc.
She served as president of the Senior Choir and president of the Missionary Society at church. She was a past chairperson of the Agnes Cooper Area Missionary Society of the South Birmingham/Huntsville District of the North Alabama Conference. Recently, she was a trustee, choir member, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and member of the Missionary Society at the local St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Thelma leaves behind to celebrate and cherish her life, her daughter, Olivia Snodgrass; son, Ricky Martin; grandson, Akinni Snodgrass; granddaughter, Olivia Kanika Snodgrass; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, King Snodgrass; parents, Clarence and Mary Sandridge; sister, Bessie Grayson; brothers, J.C. Sandridge, Howard Sandridge.
