Alene Hendrix Dewberry, 96 of Okeechobee passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Funeral services were held October 1, 2020 at Geraldine Funeral Home Chapel.
Alene was a devout Christian who began and ended each day reading scripture. Widowed at a young age, she was an incredibly strong woman who created a loving and stable home for herself and her children. She was incredibly nurturing and loved to garden and surround herself with God’s beauty. Her handmade biscuits were second to only the loving hugs she gave her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She so loved spending time with family near and far and would hop in a car on a moment’s notice with her red cooler in the front seat, filled with cokes and peanuts. She was an avid storyteller and could recount every memory from her life’s journey and recalled the many people who touched her life along the way. She had warm hands, a quick wit and a beautiful smile.
Alene’s four generations of family continue her circle of love with her son, Denny; daughters, Carolyn Snyder, Brenda (Dusty) Sexton, Marcia (A.D.) Wallace, Debra Cisco; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jimmie Sue Simms, Patricia (Buford) Lewis; brother, Lavon Hendrix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.D.; parents, Jack and Malice Graham Malice; brothers, James, Billy, Bobby and Neil; sister, Frances Ridgeway; sons-in-law, Phil Snyder, Rusty Cisco.
Love of God and family first are the legacy of all who entered her circle of light. This will be carried with them like a warm blanket enfolding them. Her life began on Sand Mountain, and her journey will end there as she is laid to rest in Geraldine alongside her husband just 10 days before their wedding anniversary.
