Veterans Helping Veterans

Veterans Helping Veterans:
Is a local group of veterans who have served this country and want to give back to their community by serving other veterans in need. One does not have to be a member of any organization or have any trade experience – just a desire to help other veterans who have become disabled, have health or financial issues. There is a job for everyone no matter what age or skill level. To become a part of this outreach for veterans in need or to wish to make a donation to fund veteran benevolence activities, please call Jim Blackburn at 256.244.4476.

Veteran community activities:
The local VFW, American Legion and their Auxiliaries (spouses and family members of veterans) are very involved in community activities. Some of the many current activities are building of the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County, working with schools to provide scholarships and awards, honoring a teacher, law enforcement officer, fireman, Boy Scout and EMT at an annual award ceremony, visiting veterans in hospitals and nursing homes and helping veterans and their widows obtain Veteran Administration benefits.

They also perform military ceremonies for the folding and presentation of the American flag at the funeral of deceased veterans. If one is a veteran or the spouse of a veteran and would like to become active in giving back to this community by becoming a part of the many activities discussed, call Sam Marsh, American Legion Post 30 at 256.609.8211 or Nate Green, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6073 at 256.244.2754.

Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County:
If one would like to help with the completion of the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County, either through a donation, purchase of a paver brick or bench, or by volunteering their labor (veterans and non-veterans are welcome), please call Jim Olyniec at 256.599.3457.
