Jackson County Commission Chairman Tim Guffey announced the Jackson County Courthouse is now open for business.
Guffey stated, “We wanted to give our citizens an update on the current state of the county. We will be opening the courthouse to the public on Friday, May 1st.
• 8:30 – 10:30 senior citizens and the disabled
• 10:30 – 12:00 closed for cleaning
• 12:00 – 4:00 open to the general public.”
The courthouse will also be sanitized in the morning before the doors open to senior citizens.
Guffey continued, “Even though we are opening to the public we are not going back to business as usual. We will only let in a certain number of people at a time. There will be one entrance at the North Door and 3 exits (South, East, & West). We are going to try our best to keep the flow of people going in one direction. Only individuals with a disability will be able to use the elevator.
We ask that only person from each family come into the courthouse to keep the amount of people in the courthouse as low as possible. We encourage all citizens to protect yourself and wear a face covering before coming into the courthouse and wash your hands when you leave.
Our goal is to keep our citizens and employees as safe as possible. There will be some inconveniences. At times we will have long lines. Please be patient. Safety is more important than convenience.
Please visit our website www.jacksoncountyal.gov or our social media for updates and information.”
Since reopening, the courthouse has been inundated with a line of people wrapping around the side of the building. With the tag office experiencing a two-hour wait at times, citizens are reminded some of these services can be accessed online from the comfort and convenience of home.
