Mr. Hurshel B. Rousseau, 96 of Limrock, a loving, kind, caring husband, daddy and papaw, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at his home with his family at his side. Graveside services were held at Cedar Hill Cemetery for family with a memorial service held at a later date.
Mr. Rousseau was a member of The Greatest Generation, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, landing in Normandy on D-Day and other campaigns, including northern France, Ardennes the Battle of the Bulge and Rhineland. He was wounded in Germany on October 29, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After coming home, Mr. Rousseau worked at Redstone Arsenal and retired after 40 years of service.
Hurshel was a member and deacon at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Woodville. He also enjoyed working in his garden and worked at Lucky’s supermarket, bagging groceries.
Mr. Rousseau is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bernice Stephens Rousseau; daughter, Sharon (Roger) Manning; grandchildren, Shannon and Clint Black, Ryan Manning; great-grandson, Kaleb Black; half-sister, Joyce Davis; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Dora Rousseau; sisters, Marjarie Whitaker, Eunice Bradford; brothers, Archie and Benjamin Rousseau.
