
Police Chief Ron Latimer was recognized at last week’s Scottsboro City County meeting. Latimer’s last day of service with the City of Scottsboro was April 1. Mayor Jim McCamy recommended Major Greg Godfrey be appointed to the position. Council President Richard “Pudge” Bailey stated that the council could table the recommendation and open the position up for interviews or appoint Godfrey. Council member Ralph Dawe was unable to be present at the meeting but made a request through Bailey that the council table the item until a later date. Council member Donna Fredrick made a motion to appoint Godfrey. The motion was approved unanimously.
Several items have been approved by the Council recently.
A resolution and agreement for the ATRIP Grant project was approved. The Alabama Department of Transportation requested the agreement. The project includes realigning Micah Way with the new frontage road connecting to Byron Road. The agreement also states that the City is responsible for any overages, which is estimated to be around $251,000, or roughly 20 percent. The funds discussed will also be a part of fiscal year 2027.
A mowing contract bid in the amount of $9,000 was approved. The bid will require a budget amendment to cover the remainder of 2025.
A budget amendment in the amount of $5,500 was approved for the Scottsboro Street Department. This amendment will allow for the price increase on tractor leases.
A budget amendment in the amount of $37,332 for the Scottsboro Fire Department was approved. The funds will be used to purchase a new truck.
A budget amendment in the amount of $7,155.52 was approved to replace the door on the city storage building on Abbie Lane.
A budget amendment was approved in the amount of $3,000 to purchase replacement bulbs for the Highway 72 and Broad Street overpasses.
A budget amendment for two pay scale changes was approved. The Scale House Operator scale change was approved at $3,500 and the building inspector scale change was approved up to $3,900. This amendment will cover the scale changes for the remainder of 2025.
These budget amendments will be paid for from excess sales tax.
Two contracts to be paid for out of the city’s paving account were approved. The first, a striping contract, will come at a cost of $31,365.20. The paving contract will come at a cost of $440,000.
