Jimmie Ray Allison was born in Rash Alabama and grew up in Big Coon Alabama outside of Stevenson, where the Allison family had lived since the early 1800’s. Jim graduated from Stevenson High School in 1951, attended Auburn University for a short period of time before joining the U.S. Army in late 1952 and getting married to Betty Ann Stephens in 1952. His first assignment was to Korea during the Korean War. He left Korea and he went to Germany, returning for a short period at Fort Hood Texas before going back to Korea, then to Atlanta Army depot. In 1963 the entire family was stationed in France, being some of the last Americans stationed in France. Then in 1966 started his first tour in Vietnam, and would spend 1966-1968 and again 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1972 but not before bringing one of the first computer systems in the Army online and into service to track equipment. In 1973 he moved back to Scottsboro and started working for the now-closed Gay-Tred Rug Mills until he was hired to run the warehouse for the Bellfonte Nuclear Power Plant. Working for TVA until the late 1980’s when he decided to retire again. But after a few years they needed Jim’s expertise in the warehouse again and he was hired by Babcock and Wilcox to manage the warehouse yet again. They needed his assistance in finding what was needed. He sat at his old desk even using his original set of keys from years before. He worked there several years before retiring for the third time. He took care of his wife Betty until she passed in 2000. He remarried in 2002 to his current wife Judy Evans and continued to travel, they went to Europe, Alaska and Caribbean. Always attending class reunions, several military unit reunions and enjoyed visiting friends and family. Jim was always a wealth of knowledge about who was related to who and really loved his family heritage. He helped so many people and comforted them in their time of need. In his 90’s he was doing stuff that some struggle to do their sixty’s and seventy’s. He was a hard worker his entire life and always believed in giving more than his full measure. He will be truly missed by many.
