The long-awaited reopening of County Road 38 is officially here! After six years of closure due to a significant slope failure, the road has been fully repaired and is now open for public use. Local and regional traffic will benefit from the completion of this major infrastructure project, which marks the end of a lengthy and complex restoration effort.
The road, which had been shut down since 2019 was plagued by a large-scale slope failure that caused a dangerous and unstable condition. Over the past several years, local authorities have worked diligently to assess, design, and implement a robust solution to restore the road’s safety and accessibility.
“We are thrilled to announce that County Road 38 is now open to the public. This reopening is a testament to the perseverance, planning, and hard work of the Jackson County community and the dedicated teams of engineers, contractors and officials who have ensured that this vital route is safe for use again,” said Bill Nance, Jackson County Commission Chairman.
The slope failure posed significant challenges due to its steep terrain, requiring advanced engineering solutions and extensive excavation. Throughout the process, complete road closure was necessary to ensure safety and prevent any further risk to motorists and nearby residents.
In addition to repairing the slope, the project included enhancements to the road’s foundation, as well as improved drainage systems to mitigate future landslides and ensure the longevity of the infrastructure. The newly reopened road offers an even safer and more reliable route for both residents and visitors.
The reopening of County Road 38 is expected to greatly benefit the local economy, improving transportation access and reducing detour times for commuters and businesses in the area.
Jackson County officials would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation during the closure period and invite everyone to use the newly repaired road responsibly.
