Mr. Matthew “Cookie” Cookston, age 37 of Hollywood, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ken Sawyers, Rev. Austin Moyers, and Rev. Matt Beaty officiated. Interment followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cookston is survived by his daughters, Madelynn Warren and Abigail Gamble; son, Chance Cookston; parents, Linda (Eric) Cookston and Dexter (Bengy) Austin; brother, Chase Cookston; sister, Erica (Austin) Moyers; niece, Rhiley Moyers; grandparents, Frank and Gladys Adkins, Carolyn Austin Starr, Melissa Cookston; best friend, Angel Valdez; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Cookston was preceded in death by his sons, Kip Cookston and Motley Cookston; grandpas, Jimmy Cookston and Dexter Austin Sr.
He was a passionate, goofy soul who found joy in music, sports, and family. He had a heart of gold, and easy-going, friendly spirit that always made friends. He never met a stranger and had a sense of humor and smile that was contagious. He is, and will always be missed by those who were blessed to know him.
