The Arbor Day Foundation has named Scottsboro a 2024 Tree City USA, celebrating the city’s 40th year of dedication to urban forestry. This long-standing commitment highlights Scottsboro’s efforts to create a greener, healthier community.
By prioritizing tree care and sustainability, the city joins a nationwide network of communities working to improve air quality, reduce energy costs, and enhance public well-being.
To receive this distinction, a city must meet four core requirements: maintaining a tree board, enforcing a community tree ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita in urban forestry, and hosting an Arbor Day celebration. Scottsboro has consistently met these standards for four decades.
“For 40 years, Scottsboro has been committed to preserving and growing our urban forest, and we are honored to once again be recognized as a Tree City USA,” said Mayor Jim McCamy. “Trees play a vital role in making our city a healthier, more beautiful place to live, and this designation reflects our dedication to sustainability and community pride. I want to thank everyone who helps make this possible, from city staff to local Tree Commission volunteers who work to keep Scottsboro green and thriving.”
