During the most recent Scottsboro Board of Education meeting, several items were approved.
Personnel items approved include the resignation of Alicia Treece as CNP Worker; and Special Education teacher Macey Machen.
Transfers included Kelly Brown, from Instructional Assistant at Nelson to CNP Worker at Caldwell; and Stephanie Doss from Preschool Auxiliary Teacher to Preschool Teacher.
The Board voted to employ Letitia Brownfield as an Instructional Assistant at Nelson; Denise Ingram as a Mental Health Coordinator; Erica Hasty as a CNP Worker at Caldwell; and Kristen Hastings as long-term third grade substitute.
During the previous Scottsboro Board of Education Work Session, Superintendent Amy Childress presented the board with several items that were subsequently approved at the meeting.
Childress discussed with the board school calendar options for the 2025-2026 school year. Childress stated that she had sent three calendar options to the staff to get anonymous feedback from them and received 166 responses. Childress said 57% of the staff who responded preferred the calendar with a week-long fall break option.
Childress presented two tech purchases. She said the Harris School Solutions Forms purchase was needed to save paper and streamline requests from staff members which would make requests run more efficiently. The NinjaOne Software would help IT better identify computer issues before they arise by sending notifications of upcoming issues to the IT department.
Childress discussed a three-year lawn mower lease agreement. Jason Arnold said that the old agreement was ending and the new one is just to upgrade what they already had in existence.
Childress presented the board with school safety purchases.
The Centegix Safety Platform was the first item presented. This system will create a map of each Board of Education facility to provide precise locations to faculty and first responders during an emergency situation. Each faculty member will wear a mobile panic button with the capability to discreetly notify others of a medical emergency, the need for a lock down and other incidents. The purchase will include all training for both Scottsboro Board of Education employees and first responders required to use the platform.
Childress also presented the board with the suggestion of purchasing three Open Gate Metal Detectors. These detectors will be portable and can be used indoors or outdoors. The detectors will also be able to be programed to different detection settings, depending on the event they are being used at.
The next Scottsboro Board of Education meeting will be held on January 23 at 5 p.m.
