Doris “Elizabeth” (Thomas) Patterson, age 97 of Lafayette, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 . Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 4, 2024 from the Section Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by her six children, Carolyn (Joel) Strickland, Thomas (Liz) Patterson, Marie Poortinga, Annette (John) Dorroll, Michael (Carolyn) Patterson, and Rebecca Patterson. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren to cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings and a grandson, Keith Strickland.
Also known to her family and friends as “Booba”, she was born in Section, Alabama on July 24, 1927 to the late Olton and Pauline (Smith) Thomas. She was married to Elmer O. “Pete” Patterson, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2003.
Elizabeth would spend her winters quilting and her summers working in her vegetable garden. She made many quilts for family and was very happy to sell quite a few. She canned vegetable soup, green beans, pickles, tomato relish, jellies and just about any vegetable or fruit that she could grow. She was a great cook and liked to feed family, friends, and neighbors. Her jars of vegetable soup and jellies were always a welcome gift. Everyone enjoyed breakfast at her house, which always included home-made buttermilk biscuits and gravy.
