During the December Jackson County Grand Jury, 303 cases were reviewed. Of those, 292 were true billed (indicted). According to the report the grand jury toured the Jackson County Courthouse.
The report stated, “We have reviewed 303 cases and return in open court 292 True Bills. We have toured the Courthouse and found it to be in well-maintained and clean condition. During our tour, we noticed some issues that we recommend be remedied: The courthouse overall needs to be modernized. The courthouse temperature was inconsistent throughout the building and needs to be addressed. We recommend that emergency exits and fire escape routes be clearly marked throughout the building. In the event that any county offices, such as the Probate Office and the Revenue Commissioner’s Offices, are moved out of the Courthouse into a different county building, we recommend that the Grand Jury meet in a different space to provide much needed room and more comfortable seating. We would like to express our thanks to the members of law enforcement who appeared before the Grand Jury this week, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsboro Police Department, Stevenson Police Department, Section Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Hollywood Police Department, Skyline Police Department, Jackson County Community Corrections Office, Southeastern Cave Conservancy, and the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. We also would like to give special appreciation to the District Attorney and his staff. We were very impressed with their knowledge about each and every case and their professionalism guiding us through the week.”
