This weekend the City of Bridgeport will officially kick off the holiday season with CUBB’s (Citizens United for a Better Bridgeport) 35th annual Christmas parade. This year’s parade theme is God Bless the USA. All floats will reflect this year’s theme. The parade will lineup at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, and the parade will begin at 5 p.m. This will be the first year for a lighted Christmas parade in Bridgeport.
Art Roper will be the featured entertainment, and Alan Payne will be singing the national anthem.
This year’s Grand Marshall will be Bridgeport City Councilman Barry Hughes. Hughes has served on the City Council for more than 23 years. He has also served as the city’s mayor pro tem. Hughes retired from the United States Army National Guard after serving 27 years and reaching an E-7 rank.
CUBB member Doris Janney says, “He [Hughes] is a wonderful leader. He really works hard for the town.”
Hughes stated, “You’re proud of all other accomplishments that you do, but when I was chosen Grand Marshall, that was quite an honor.”
All individuals, school clubs, teams, churches, organizations, homecoming courts and cheerleaders are encouraged and invited to participate. There is always excitement with the North Jackson Band performing.
There will be activities for the whole family downtown beginning at 4 p.m.
