My Best Fall Baits of 2024
by Mike Gerry
Every year is different and many times every week changes what bait is hot for me but this season it’s been all about a few baits that seem to be repeating themselves this fall day in and day out! There’s many bait types for us to choose from but these few are my fish catches so far on the fall of 2024.
First of all, it seems like we have had many days of wind, especially early in the morning when you first hit the water. Nothing has been as successful as rolling a small profile spinner bait over the grass like Duckett’s spinner bait, the size matches the hatch, the colors are right for Guntersville and the action with the small willow leaf blades have made it a great fish catcher this fall.
Next is the SPRO McRip jerk bait, it has just been a game changer, the size is perfect for the
fall bite, it got an enticing back and forth action that is second to none for the schooling activity of the fall. They have several colors that look natural in the water emulating the bass in many ways, its depth range is perfect for upward feeding bass as they do in the fall: it’s just the perfect jerk bait for me this fall. Make no mistake size matters in the fall and the McRip is sized perfectly for the hatch this fall.
Lastly, when we have had to slow down Missile Bait D-Bombs is the perfect look on Guntersville this fall. Its fat body and flappy legs are just perfect to drop into the holes in the scattered grass, you can fish it Texas rigged with a light or heavy weight to match the depth or wind control you need to get to the right drop depth. There are many colors available so it’s easy to match the water color everyday your on the water; it sizes up well, it’s colored well and its action is enticing to the fish.
