Inez Bearden, age 96, passed away on October 26, 2024. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from the Grant Memorial Chapel. Bro. Steve Stanfield and Bro. David Gunn officiated. Interment followed in the Free Home Cemetery.
Mrs. Bearden is survived by her sisters, Doris Davis and Helen Tucker; as well as a large extended family, including several nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Bearden was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Bearden and Ethel Bearden; brothers, Bennie Bearden and Granville Bearden; sisters, Aline Sutton and Ruth White; husband, Ernest T. Plunkett; and companion, Mel Astley.
Inez attended school at KDS DAR, later completing her GED. Inez had a varied work life including a security guard at Goodyear in Scottsboro, and sales for Olan Mills, where she traveled the southeast. She enjoyed collecting tokens from her travels and told entertaining tales of her experiences with people she met. Her hobbies included gardening, bird watching and baking. She was a Master Gardener and grew many varieties of beautiful flowers. Her vegetable gardens produced bushels that she shared with family and canned for her use. She made a bird sanctuary around her home and could identify most birds by sight and sound. She enjoyed cooking, particularly baking, and could always be counted on to bring dessert to family dinners. She also enjoyed sharing her life with her dog, Heidi. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
