Jo Ann Vaught Sims passed away on September 17, 2024. A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Sims was born in Scottsboro, Alabama. She graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a BS in Elementary Education in 1960, later earning her MAEd from Alabama A&M. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was employed by Scottsboro City Schools from 1960 to 1993, teaching third grade most of those years at Caldwell Elementary School. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and the United Methodist Women. Her most cherished church activity was singing in the Chancel Choir. Mrs. Sims was also active in civic and educational clubs such as Music Study Club, Community Chorus, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Sims is survived by her daughter, Holly Sims (Michael) Donham; son, Taylor Wayne Sims; grandchildren, Harrison Michaels, Gini Beth Michaels; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Wayne Sims; father, Seaborn Loveless Vaught; mother Lucille Campbell Vaught; brother, Lindsey Vaught; half-brothers Tince Webb, Charlie Webb, and Robert Webb.
