Multiple volunteer opportunities available for Veterans and family members

VFW Post 6073 and Auxiliary are excited to announce multiple volunteer positions available to veterans and family members who meet the criteria for membership in this elite, congressionally chartered non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and serving the community.
Post 6073 is a historic post established in 1946 and has been serving veterans and the community ever since. Located at 1616 Heroes Drive in Scottsboro, Alabama, the post home is situated between the Veterans Sports Complex and the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County, directly across from the Veterans Fair Grounds. Post 6073 offers a welcoming environment for all veterans and their families.

To be eligible for membership in the VFW, individuals must have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States and have either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving. Additionally, they must have served in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters.

Membership is a mark of distinction, represented by veterans who still have a powerful drive to serve long after the fight is over. The camaraderie among members is unparalleled, fostering a sense of empowerment and belonging. There are many benefits to joining the VFW, including access to exclusive discounts on insurance, financial services, travel, and more.

There are multiple volunteer opportunities. Key positions are elected or appointed All roles are crucial in supporting the mission of Post 6073 and ensuring the smooth operation of its various initiatives.

Post 6073 understands that many veteran Comrades may be interested in serving with ongoing projects instead of elected or appointed positions. Throughout the year, VFW Post 6073 engages in numerous projects where veteran and family member volunteers are needed at major events throughout the year. Just one opportunity, the Veterans Helping Veterans Program is among the top performing VFW programs in Alabama, demonstrating the commitment to supporting fellow veterans.

There are also opportunities to support veterans from home. Post 6073 Public Affairs Program is seeking volunteers proficient in developing content to assist with preparing announcements, press releases, photo/video editing, and other digital publications, all of which can be performed remotely. VFW Post 6073 is also seeking volunteers who have experience in website and social media administration.

Post 6073 is an All American, 100% community involvement and family-oriented post. There is no canteen on the premises. All fundraising for the post is conducted through local events and generous donations from the public.

Family members of veterans are encouraged to join the Auxiliary in support of these efforts. Major events throughout the year include Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and other patriotic observances. The VFW also hosts youth and scholarship awards programs, such as the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen contests, which have seen local winners go on to win at the state level.

Post 6073 and Auxiliary meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm for a meal and 6:30pm for the meeting.
