Additional pickleball courts to cost $450,000

Scottsboro City Council members recently heard from Jim Olyniec regarding the request for six additional pickleball courts.
Olyniec began by stating that his request was to build six new courts and to tentatively award contracts. Bids were received by Olyniec regarding the project. He stated that to complete the six courts, the cost would be $450,000 which includes a five percent contingency fee. The previous six courts, including a pavilion, were built at a cost of $400,000.
Olyniec stated that the project would be an investment for the citizens of Scottsboro and Jackson County.

Council member Mike Ashburn responded by stating that he does not feel that a decision on this item could be currently made.

Council President Richard Bailey placed the item on the agenda for August 19.
