Council discusses paving subdivision

During the recent Scottsboro City Council meeting on 7/1/24 the bid to resurface the Lakeview Shores Subdivision was discussed. City Clerk Whitney Phillips announced that the city posted one bid, mailed three bids and received one bid to resurface the subdivision. The bid received from Rogers Group came in at one million, two hundred sixty two thousand, three hundred eight dollars ($1,262,308) with a request for a five percent contingency fee. Council member Mike Ashburn spoke up and stated that the bid came in considerably less than he thought it would. The resurfacing would cover 4.3 miles.

Josh Little, City Engineer, spoke regarding changes to the zoning ordinance for residential districts. Little stated that the past few requests have been to rezone to R3, the single family and two family home district, which causes confusion. Little suggested that an R6 district be created and two family homes be placed under that district and removed from the R3 district. Council member Donna Fredrick agreed with the proposal.

Phillips spoke regarding several election related resolutions. Phillips requested that an agreement with Jackson County Commission for the use of electronic poll books at a cost of $1,500 per election be approved. She also requested approval of a resolution setting the rate of pay for election officials at $175 per day for inspectors and all others at a rate of $150 per day for both the general and run-off elections.
