Council approves budget amendment

During the recent Scottsboro City Council meeting, the budget amendment request made by John Moses to raise the three building inspectors up one range to align pay with that of the fire inspector was tabled until the 2025 budget is approved. Moses previously stated that in the past, the building inspectors and fire inspectors have always been on the same pay scale, and that when the new fire inspector was hired, he was raised up one range.
A request to solicit bids for a skid steer heard from the Scottsboro Street Department was approved. Council member Mike Ashburn previously stated this item had been mentioned during the previous budget meetings, but that it was decided to re-look at the item later in the year to determine if excess sales tax would allow for the expense.

The motion for funding for the Dennis Quaid show, a show that would have brought national exposure to the City of Scottsboro in the form of short documentaries, according to Mayor Jim McCamy, died due to the lack of motion.

The motion for a budget amendment in the amount of $7,500 from excess sales tax for roof repairs to the Civic Center was approved. City Clerk Whitney Phillips previously spoke regarding the Goose Pond Civic Center’s roof repair. Phillips stated that the roof has several leaks in it and after speaking with the original installers it appeared that the roof could be repaired at a maximum cost of $7,500.

The motion to consider a budget amendment for the environmental studies for the airport acquisition was approved in the amount of up to $23,000. McCamy previously requested that this item be approved. The cost, $22,850 is reimbursable by the FAA and State of Alabama and will cover environmental studies for the acquisition.
