First ever Dragon Boat Races coming to Scottsboro

Highlands Medical Center and Nourish One Child are teaming up to bring the first ever 2024 Scottsboro Dragon Boat Races to Goose Pond Resort Marina on Saturday, August 10. Opening ceremonies will take place at 8:30 a.m.
The event will feature the races that will take place all day and are incredible for the competitors and spectators alike. Spectators will gather at Goose Pond Colony to cheer on their favorite teams who board 46-foot-long traditional Hong Kong-style dragon boats for a race along Lake Guntersville. Each team consists of 22 people with a drummer at the front, 20 seated rowers and a steerer in the back. There will also be food and entertainment on the grounds.

Highlands Medical Center (HMC) is hoping to raise enough funds to supplement crucial radiology and imaging equipment for their radiology/imaging department, and Nourish One Child (NOC) is always in need of funds to serve local children facing food insecurity. On average, NOC fills 405 bags of food per week with an approximate cost of $10 per bag. Each bag goes home with a student to supplement their diet during the weekend when they don’t have access to the free school meals at Scottsboro City Schools.

For questions or more information on how to sign up, volunteer or sponsor, please contact Kristie at HMC at 256-218-3690 or visit the race website at www.scottsborodragonboatraces.com.
