Scottsboro Municipal election set for August 27

The City of Scottsboro will hold its municipal election on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Qualifying for the election began Tuesday, June 11 and runs through Tuesday, June 25. If necessary a run-off election will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Four positions will be on the ballot including Scottsboro Mayor, places 1 and 2 on the Scottsboro City Council and place 1 on the Scottsboro Board of Education.

Currently the office of Mayor is held by Jim McCamy, Scottsboro City Council place 1 is held by Ralph Dawe, Scottsboro City Council place 2 is held by Nita Tolliver and Scottsboro Board of Education place 1 is held by Lee Benson.

In order to qualify, electors should have resided within the municipality of Scottsboro for a period of at least 90 days on Election Day. In order to qualify, you must obtain and submit your Statement of Candidacy and other necessary documents to the Municipal Elections Manager, Scottsboro City Clerk Whitney Phillips at the Scottsboro City Hall.

All registered and qualified electors of the state who reside within the corporate limits of Scottsboro, Alabama, and have resided therein for 30 days or more immediately preceding the date of such election, will be authorized to participate in the election. This is an At-Large Election: There are no districts, no precincts, no territories, no party affiliations and no write-ins.

Everyone will vote at one polling place, the Scottsboro RecCom located at 701 Houston Street, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Central Daylight Time.

Candidates who intend to run in the upcoming election may submit a mugshot-style photo and short biographical announcement to The Clarion by emailing editorial@theclarion.org.

Announcements may not be used to promote campaign platform and may be reduced to fit allowed space. No announcements will be accepted after the qualifying deadline on June 25.
