Gratitude from the Scottsboro Tree Commission

Alabama Arbor Day 2024 was commemorated on February 24th with a tree seedling distribution and honorary tree planting co-sponsored by the Scottsboro Tree Commission, The National Arbor Day Foundation and the Alabama Urban Forestry Association.

A Red Maple was planted on the grounds of the Scottsboro/Jackson Heritage Center in honor of Ms. Judi Weaver. Judi was the director of the Heritage Center from 1997 until 2017, and is very aware and appreciative of the value of trees in the urban landscape.

The Tree Commission would sincerely like to thank all those who took part in and attended the seedling distribution at the Veterans fairgrounds exhibit building, with special thanks to the VFW for the use of that building.

For their publicity efforts on our behalf, special thanks go to The First United Methodist Church for our announcements on their beautiful digital community sign, The Jackson County Sentinel, The Clarion, Scottsboro Power Board TV Channel 2, and WMXM, WKEA, and WWIC radio stations, and the City of Scottsboro for Facebook posts.

Many thanks to our Jackson County foresters for being on hand.

We extend a special debt of gratitude to the Jackson County Master Gardeners. Without their kind, generous assistance, we would never be able to have such a successful endeavor each year.

Over 200 nice people came by the VFW that Saturday morning to pick up 1700 baby trees which we hope will become large, beautiful trees for many future generations.
Urban trees have always been a part of the fabric of America. They beautify our communities, cool our homes, increase property values, clean our air, provide oxygen that we breathe, reduce noise, prevent soil erosion and create habitat for birds.

Sincerely,
