Merriel Eugene “Gene” Chaney, age 77 of Scottsboro, passed away on December 24, 2023. A memorial service was held on January 6, 2024 from the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Chaney is survived by his wife, Priscilla Jean Melton Chaney; children, Jeffery “Jeff” Eugene (Melinda Hood) Chaney and Tangela “Tangie” Chaney (Jamie Christopher) Holland; grandchildren, Halen Tate Chaney, Rock Cadence Chaney and Axl Crue Chaney; Patricia Ann (Walter) Voce, Sarah Chaney (Don) Cox, John Henry Chaney, Joyce Gail Chaney and Phillip David (Angel) Chaney; uncle, Hosea (Gay) Chaney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; mother in law, Sarah Ruth Melton; and sister in law, Sue Elmore Chaney and Brenda Earls Chaney.
Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Baker Chaney and Bernice Elkins Chaney; brothers, Walter Hezekiah Chaney and McKinley Lew Chaney; and nephew, John Clinton “Clint” Chaney.
