Ariel Chen, an 11th grade Scottsboro High School student, was recently recognized at the Scottsboro Board of Education meeting. Chen was awarded 1st place in the VFW Post 6073, Jackson County “Young American Patriotic Art Contest”, last year. This year, Chen was again awarded 1st place at the local level, and also received 1st place in the State Competition.
Brenda Brandon, VFW Auxiliary Post joined the Scottsboro Board of Education in recognizing Chen for her accomplishments in the Young American Art and 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest for grades 9-12.
Each year, more than 4,000 students across the country compete in the competition, which began n in 1979. The first place winner from each State has the chance to compete for National Scholarship awards totaling $37,000.
