Mrs. Joan “Mrs. Geno” Catherine VanDyke Brickley Richardson, 92 of Scottsboro, born on Sunday, November 9, 1930 to Granville and Mary VanDyke, peacefully passed away in her home on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Scottsboro with Dr. Steven Screws officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Joan was one of 11 children and raised three sons with her first husband of over 50 years. They owned and operated Geno’s Pizza in Scottsboro for 26 years. After retiring and selling the business, she enjoyed volunteering at Highlands Medical Center for 24 years and at FUMC where she was a longtime member. In her later years, she married again, and they spent their last years enjoying each other’s company.
She is survived by her brothers, Dean VanDyke, Dale (Jeannie) VanDyke; sister, Jewel Hodo; son, George Brickley; grandchildren, Richard (Karen) Baker, Sara (David) Billings, Benjamin (Stephanie) Brickley, Josh (Emily) Brickley, Stephanie Beasley; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; husbands, Thomas Brickley, Benjamin Richardson; sons, Infant Baby Brickley, Ronald Brickley, John Brickley; grandson, David Brickley.
